Closed Up: A Moment of Camaraderie

closed up - spectre of the brocken - halo for the observer

Rising before the sun,

I hear the gentle hum of a banjo in the distance.

It’s abstract, yet its soothing melody bounces softly off the misty morning air.

From a hidden location,

I stand with my ear to the wind, listening as sunlight sneaks through cracks of closed doors.

I search frantically for the musician,

wanting to tip his jar and share a drink,

wishing him Godspeed on his journey.

However,

I’ve learned the hard way that not every performance is outstanding and the road is unforgiving.

I don’t have the heart to tell him…

They all can’t be zingers!
