Lost at Sea: Whispered Prayers and Solemn Vows

lost at sea - spectre of the Brocken

Adrift amidst the unforgiving sea,

a lone refugee battles intolerable greed,

struggling against the relentless onslaught of waves.

Between the whispered winds,

fragments of his fervent prayers divide,

split and carried like delicate rice paper notes in the storm.

Through her warm ajar window,

words sprinkle across the prying ears of town:

Save her in this waking hour, but spare not me.’

The sea takes its sacrificial offering with a last gulp.

A haunting swallow locked in the gale,

frequency of the storm subsides,

and the offering descends the vast dark night.

Lost at Sea: You can find this story in the collection “Spectre of the Brocken: Halo for the Observer.”
